Custom Shopify and Shopify Plus stores built to convert, load fast, and rank

Shopify is the fastest way to launch a serious store and the easiest way to build a mediocre one. Drag a theme into place, bolt on ten apps, and you get a slow, generic storefront that leaks revenue at every step — on mobile, where most of your customers actually are. We build the other kind: custom themes, clean checkouts, and integrations wired the right way. Because we're engineers who do SEO, not marketers who Googled it.

Why it matters

Your storefront is your best salesperson — and most Shopify builds hobble it

On a Shopify store, every millisecond and every extra click is money. A one-second delay in load time measurably cuts conversion, and every unnecessary field in checkout is another chance for a shopper to abandon a full cart. Yet the typical build stacks a bloated theme on top of a dozen apps that each inject their own scripts, and the store crawls — exactly where it can least afford to, on the phone in a customer's hand.

Shopify wins for most stores because it takes payments, security, PCI compliance, hosting, and a checkout that converts off your plate, so you can spend your energy on selling instead of maintaining infrastructure. But that same convenience is why so many stores look and behave identically, and why so few are actually built for search. Product and collection pages are where e-commerce SEO is won or lost, and out of the box they ship with thin templates, duplicate content from variants and filters, and no structured data — so Google struggles to tell your catalog apart from anyone else's.

We treat the storefront as a performance product. Custom themes that ship only the code you need. Checkout tuned to remove friction rather than add apps. Integrations audited so each one earns its weight. Product and collection pages built to rank from the first commit. That's the difference between a store that looks sharp in a demo and one that compounds revenue every month it's live.

The full scope

Everything that goes into a Shopify build done right

A theme built for your brand and your speed budget, not a marketplace template

Off-the-shelf themes carry code for a hundred use cases you'll never touch, and it all loads on every page. We build custom themes — or heavily rework a solid base theme — so the storefront ships only the CSS and JavaScript it actually needs. The result matches your brand exactly, loads fast on real phones, and stays editable by your team long after we hand it off.

  1. Custom theme development on Online Store 2.0
  2. Reusable sections and blocks your team can edit without a developer
  3. Metafields and metaobjects for rich, structured product content
  4. Lean, render-optimized CSS and JavaScript
  5. Mobile-first layouts tested on real devices

Remove the friction between add-to-cart and the thank-you page

The path from product page to confirmed order is where revenue lives or dies. We tighten it — faster product pages, cleaner cart and checkout flows, Shop Pay and accelerated wallets enabled, and trust signals placed exactly where shoppers hesitate. On Shopify Plus we go further with checkout extensions and Functions to customize the one page most stores aren't allowed to touch.

  1. Product and cart pages tuned to reduce abandonment
  2. Shop Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and express checkout enabled
  3. Checkout extensions and Functions on Shopify Plus
  4. Trust signals and shipping clarity placed where shoppers stall
  5. A/B-ready layouts and clear, testable calls to action

Connect your stack without drowning the storefront in scripts

Every app is a trade-off: it adds a feature and usually adds weight. We audit what you're running, cut what you don't need, and wire the rest — ERP, CRM, email, reviews, subscriptions, Odoo or NetSuite, 3PL and fulfillment — through clean integrations instead of a pile of overlapping plugins. When the right app doesn't exist, we build the custom app or Function instead of forcing a bad fit.

  1. App audit to cut redundant, script-heavy plugins
  2. ERP, CRM, email, and 3PL / fulfillment integrations
  3. Reviews, subscriptions, and loyalty wired cleanly
  4. Custom Shopify apps and Functions when off-the-shelf falls short

Go headless when the storefront demands it — not because it's trendy

Headless Shopify with Hydrogen and Oxygen gives you total control of the front end and elite performance, but it's more to build and more to maintain. We'll tell you honestly whether your store needs it or whether a well-built custom theme gets you most of the benefit at a fraction of the cost. When headless is the right call, we build it — with server-side rendering so it stays fully crawlable and indexable.

  1. Hydrogen and Oxygen headless storefronts
  2. Storefront API and custom front-end architecture
  3. Server-side rendering so headless stays SEO-safe
  4. Shopify Plus features: Functions, B2B, and scripts

Move onto Shopify — or replatform your store — without losing rankings

Migrations onto Shopify from WooCommerce, Magento, or BigCommerce are where equity quietly disappears: broken redirects, lost product URLs, and orphaned collection pages. We plan the whole move — full URL inventory, 1:1 redirect mapping, product and collection data migrated cleanly, structured data rebuilt — then monitor from day one. Product and collection SEO is baked into the build, not bolted on after launch.

  1. Migrations from WooCommerce, Magento, and BigCommerce
  2. 1:1 redirect maps for products, collections, and content
  3. Product and collection schema plus canonical handling
  4. Faceted-filter and variant duplicate-content control

How we work

How a Swarm Shopify build runs

01

We map your catalog, customers, and constraints

Before a line of code, we learn how your store actually makes money — the products, the buying journey, the systems it has to talk to, and where the current storefront is leaking revenue.

Catalog and inventory audit

Products, variants, collections, and how they're organized today.

Integration inventory

Every system the store connects to — ERP, CRM, 3PL, email.

Conversion and speed baseline

Where shoppers drop off and how fast pages load right now.

02

We design the storefront and plan the build

We design pages around conversion and search, then decide the architecture: custom theme or headless, which apps stay, and what needs to be built custom.

Conversion-first page design

Product, collection, cart, and checkout designed to sell.

Architecture decision

Theme vs. headless, chosen for your store — not for us.

SEO and URL plan

Structure, schema, and redirects mapped before we build.

03

We build it in your store — clean and fast

We develop the theme, wire the integrations, and set product and collection pages up for search, testing everything in a preview or staging environment before it goes live.

Custom theme development

Lean code, reusable sections, and editable content.

Integrations and apps

Only what earns its weight, wired cleanly.

Preview QA

Every page and flow tested before launch.

04

We launch, verify, and watch it closely

Redirects go live, we confirm indexation and checkout are working with real test orders, and we monitor speed, orders, and Search Console so anything that slips is caught in hours, not months.

Redirects and go-live

1:1 redirects live and validated at launch.

Checkout and order verification

Real test orders through every payment path.

Day-one monitoring

Speed, indexation, and orders watched from launch.

The difference

We build Shopify stores that sell, not just look good

Most Shopify shops hand you a themed store and call it done — no thought to speed, schema, or whether Google can even rank your product pages. We build for search and performance from the first commit, and we actually ship. If your store looks fine but doesn't convert or doesn't rank, the build is usually why.

By industry

Shopify looks different in every category

Fashion & Apparel

Apparel lives and dies on variants — sizes, colors, and fits multiply product URLs and duplicate content, while shoppers expect fast, image-heavy browsing on mobile.

We build variant and swatch UX that stays fast, canonicalize variant URLs so they don't cannibalize each other, optimize and lazy-load imagery, and add Product schema so collection and product pages earn rich results instead of sitting buried in the listings.

Health & Beauty

Beauty brands run on subscriptions, reviews, and ingredient-level trust — and often bolt on so many apps to deliver it that the storefront grinds to a halt.

We wire subscriptions and reviews through clean integrations instead of a plugin pile, structure ingredient and benefit content with metafields, and keep the trust signals shoppers need without the script bloat that quietly kills load time.

Learn more

Home Goods

Home and furniture catalogs are large, image-rich, and full of variations — the classic crawl-budget and slow-page problem, made worse by big hero photography.

We optimize heavy imagery with next-gen formats and lazy-loading, build collection architecture that routes authority to bestsellers, and keep faceted filters from spawning thin, duplicate URLs Google wastes its crawl budget on.

Learn more

Food & Beverage

Food and beverage brands juggle subscriptions, bundles, perishable inventory, and local delivery or shipping rules that stock themes handle badly.

We build bundle and subscription logic that's easy to buy, tune checkout for shipping and delivery constraints, and mark up products so recurring and one-time options are clear to both shoppers and search engines.

Learn more

Electronics

Electronics stores carry deep specs, comparison-heavy shoppers, and constant price and stock changes — detail-rich pages that have to stay fast and accurate.

We structure specs with metafields for scannable, search-friendly product pages, keep pricing and stock synced through clean integrations, and add Product and Review schema so spec-hungry buyers find you in search and in AI results.

DTC Brands

Direct-to-consumer brands live on speed, storytelling, and margin — a generic theme that loads slowly undercuts every ad dollar and every campaign.

We build a fast custom storefront that carries the brand, wire the email, reviews, and analytics stack cleanly, and set product pages up to rank organically so you're not renting all your traffic from paid channels.

Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Why Shopify instead of WooCommerce or a custom platform?

For most stores, Shopify handles payments, security, PCI compliance, hosting, and checkout so you don't have to — that's real engineering you'd otherwise pay to build and maintain forever. It scales cleanly from your first sale to Shopify Plus enterprise volume, and its checkout is one of the highest-converting on the market. We'll only steer you elsewhere if your requirements genuinely outgrow it, which is rarer than most agencies pretend.

Do I need a custom theme, or is a premium theme fine?

A premium theme can be a fine starting point, but out of the box it ships code for dozens of use cases you'll never touch, and it all loads on every page. We often start from a solid base theme and strip it down, or build fully custom when your brand and performance targets justify it. The goal is the same either way: only the code you actually need, and pages your team can edit without calling a developer.

Will a Shopify migration hurt my Google rankings?

It won't if it's planned properly, and it usually does when it isn't. We build a full URL inventory, map 1:1 redirects for every product, collection, and content page, migrate your data cleanly, and rebuild structured data before launch — then monitor Search Console from day one so anything that slips is caught in hours, not months after the traffic is already gone.

Should I go headless with Hydrogen?

Only if your store actually needs it. Headless gives you total front-end control and elite performance, but it's more to build and more to maintain. For most stores a well-built custom theme delivers nearly the same speed at a fraction of the cost and complexity. When headless is genuinely the right call, we build it with server-side rendering so it stays fully crawlable and indexable.

How do you keep my store fast with all the apps I need?

We audit every app for its speed cost, cut the redundant and script-heavy ones, and wire the rest through clean integrations instead of overlapping plugins. When an app doesn't exist or is too heavy, we build a custom Shopify app or Function. Speed is a budget we spend deliberately, one script at a time — not an afterthought we apologize for later.

Can you handle Shopify Plus and B2B?

Yes. On Shopify Plus we use checkout extensions and Functions to customize the checkout most stores can't touch, build B2B and wholesale experiences, and handle the higher volume and integration demands of enterprise catalogs — all with the same performance and SEO discipline we bring to every build, large or small.
